The advantages of a sheet on an elastic band are obvious: it does not go astray, does not frown and always looks neat. Sewing such a sheet is easy - follow the steps shown in the master class.

You will need:

- a finished sheet without an elastic band (if its size is sufficient - see the paragraph on constructing a pattern) or a fabric of the right size (choose a fabric of maximum width, if necessary, fabric will have to be adjusted);

- elastic tape;

- sewing machine or overlock, thread;

- a centimeter tape, pencil or marker for marking the fabric.

1. We measure a mattress

The first thing to do is measure your mattress. Take measurements on the width (a in the picture), the length (b) and the thickness of the mattress ©. Add 1.5 cm to each measure for a fit. Also add 13-15 cm on each side for those parts of the sheet that will be located at the bottom of the mattress.

2. We cut fabric

Cutting consists in cutting the edges of the sheet / fabric to the desired width and length and in cutting 4 squares in the corners. The length f (side of the cut square, see picture) should be 13-15 cm, which you added for the inside of the sheet + the thickness of the mattress. The whole canvas without cut squares should correspond to the size of your mattress + 1.5 cm on each side, which you added to fit.

3. Sew corners

The sides of the squares must be sewn so that the marks X and O coincide (seepicture). Fold the fabric with the sides facing inward and sew the edges of the squares on the overlock or sew on the machine, then sewing the edge with a zigzag. Handle the edge of the resulting sheet with an overlock or zigzag on a typewriter.

4. Sew an elastic band

Sew or pin the end of the elastic tape with a pin on the inside of the sheet, departing from the edge about 1-1.5 cm. When stretching the elastic, sew it in a zigzag around the entire perimeter of the sheet.

5. We process the edge

Tuck the edge of the sheet with the elastic sewn in and sew along the edge, stretching the fabric with the elastic properly.

P. S. Drawstring variant

You can not sew on the elastic with a zigzag, but draw a drawstring along the edge of the sheet, where you will then sell the elastic. In this case, the ends of the elastic tape after being threaded into the drawstring will need to be tightly stitched together.
