Our pride, the subject of close attention of men - the chest always required special accessories to enhance the effect and the best "lift".
It seems that bras have always existed and everywhere. They were worn in countries recognized as the cradle of civilization, and women of primitive tribes knew. One of the oldest love messages that have survived to this day was left by the Egyptian around the 6th century. BC. "I would like to become a tape that tightens your chest," - read the inscription of the poet in love on papyrus.
Women in ancient Greece wore special dressings made of strips of fabric or leather that supported the chest from below or helped to hide too lush forms. On an amphora of the middle of the 5th century BC. the scene of Aphrodite's dressing is depicted: winged creatures help the beautiful goddess to tighten the first, perhaps, bra in the world, covered with patterns on her back.
Yes, and the ladies of ancient Rome were aware of different options for dressings for the chest: fascia restrained the growth of the bust of young girls, mamillare pulled together the magnificent breasts of mature women strophium supported heavy breasts from below.
In the ascetic Middle Ages, the bra was forgotten. For centuries, European women have been forced to wear heavy corset shells with metal inserts to lift their breasts. In 1370, a decree was issued in Strasbourg that ordered absolutely all women to support their breasts (or tighten, as in Spain) with a lace-up dress.
The first corsets of the girl were put on at the age of 16. And from that moment on, their body no longer knew freedom, day or night, since night corsets also existed. But, despite all the torments and constraints, the corset served as the main, formative part of women's clothing until the end of the 19th century, when medicine and sport actively intervened in fashion.
The story of the "appearance" of the bra
Apparently, the idea of bras was in the air, because he had quite a few authors. The famous Parisian doctor Madame Guiche Saro made first bustiersimply cutting the corset in half: the upper half became a bra, and the lower half became a belt. And at first, this item was sold only in pharmacies. At the same time, in the same capital of France, a fashionista Ermini Cadol cut off the upper part from the corset and sewed on her straps, thus making life easier for her tennis client. And soon the German seamstress Christine Hardt came up with "sweatshirt for women on straps with sealed cups on the chest". A detailed cover letter to the sweatshirt said that she perfectly supports the female breast, without changing its natural shape.
However, the first patent for the invention of the bra was received by a young wealthy American Mary Phelps Jacobs in 1914, it happened like this: getting ready for a social event, Mary noticed that the corset made of thick fabric could not be combined with her gorgeous evening dress, opening her back, called for the maid and, together with her, made up two elastic bands and a pair of handkerchiefs without a bra backs. After a couple of years, a large firm bought the rights to the invention from Mary Phelps, and the bra went to the people.
By the way, an interesting fact is known. When in 1917US military industry urged women to abandon bras equipped with metal bones. Patriots supported, and the action allowed to save 28 thousand tons of metal and build two warships!
The "mother" of the bra is also called the dressmaker I go Rosenthal-Kaganovichwho emigrated to America from Russia. In 1922, she divided the bodice into half-cups, connecting it with an insert of elastic material.
Bust holder, breast holder, brassiere - as soon as this intimate object was not called at the beginning of the 20th century. The first bras were neither beauty nor sexuality, but already in the early 30s, no self-respecting lady could not imagine life without them.
Since 1935, models have been produced with cups of four sizes familiar to us all from A to D, and in 1942 the company Meidenform begins the production of two new products at once: bras with adjustable straps and for nursing mothers. The first bras were worn over the head, but over time, thank God, a fastener appeared on the back. "Put on in 17 seconds!"- read the advertisement of that time. The bra was gradually overgrown with lace and ribbons and became not just underwear, but an attribute of a luxurious lifestyle.
Lingerie Fashion
Having recovered after a difficult war period, women of the 50s are trying their best to be beautiful. The owners of seductive forms Marilyn Monroe, Brigitte Bardot, Gina Lollobrigida and Sophia Loren become standards of femininity. To be like them, millions of women around the world buy oval foam tabs - fish for a bra, imitating a luxurious chest. In the 60s, at the height of the women's struggle for gender equality, bras had a hard time. Feminists burned them at the "bonfires of freedom."But already in the early 80s, the famous fashion houses, Gauthier, Yves Saint Laurent, Gucci and Versace, launched the production of sophisticated collections of linen. And in 1992, a 24-carat gold bra was made!
Fashion designers did not hold back their imagination. Brassieres with open nipples appeared, seamless, fitting like a second skin, cup applications, with taste and smell. It is interesting, but each of us needs a special way in search of his bra - the one in which the chest looks beautiful and right: the right size, with the right distance between the cups, etc.
Plastic surgery is developing rapidly, and one in five already has a breast implant. Perhaps the bra is losing its main supporting purpose, and will soon be perceived only as a wonderful frame for a perfect piece of plastic art.
FASHION OF THE MIDDLE OF THE XX CENTURY: rounded shapes and, of course, a magnificent bust - the standard of beauty of that time. But what about ordinary mortal ladies ?! This is where special bras with secret filling helped.
FASHION OF THE END OF THE XX CENTURY: the forms are becoming sharper, broad shoulders and boyish flat bellies are welcomed, but the bust is still appreciated, breasts can be made to order, however, bras play an equally important role.
CINEMA AND SINGERS: a bra plays an important role in the concert costumes of fashionable singers, who prefer models with bones or swimwear with the corresponding cups to give the breasts a maximum magnificent and seductive look.
