There are simple things in life that indicate significant differences between people. Such things, for example, were a white T-shirt or blue cotton trousers called jeans: their owners questioned the established public order. World War II was a thing of the past, but still was not forgotten. The new generation began to ask questions. How could this actually happen? Shy, naive questions that were unlikely to be answered, except for the following: "At that time, you walked under the table on foot ..." or "Learn order first ..."
Two generations did not find a common language in resolving these issues. The young were looking for their own, creative way out of the situation. It could be music: in the mid-50s, one of the first rock and roll artists Bill Haley Rock around the clock ("Rock around the clock") drove fans into a frenzy. A way out could be fashion. When Marlon Brando posed in a white T-shirt worn under a brutal biker jacket, his style was just as different from Dior's silhouettes as modern from punk culture. The stormy 60s had not yet arrived, but the approach of a new time was already felt.
Films with the idols of American and German youth James Dean ("Rebel Without a Cause") and Horst Buch Kholtz ("Hooligans") had program names that were not accidental: it was time for a rebellion against the false foundations of society.Old life in the Old World could not continue. But, what should come to replace, also no one knew. To begin with, they met Elvis Presley with enthusiasm - on October 1, 1958, the “damned” rock and roll arrived in the Federal Republic of Germany on his own. Since then, the spread of youth culture has been impossible to stop. Even in the provincial towns where the United States Army units were based, youth constantly absorbed this freedom and ease - the American way of life.
And in fashion girls found an alternative to a boyish t-shirt - a pullover. So far with a hint of a wasp waist from Dior, but with a touch of feminism from Coco Chanel. This is more of a pullover than a blouse - with a through fastener on buttons, boldly moved to the back, from knitted fabric or rough wool, slightly fitted and in any case longer than regular pullovers. A fashionable novelty was worn with or without a belt, with a skirt or, "worse," with trousers. A relaxed thing for self-confident girls whose parents no longer knew where their daughters spend time. Whether they smoke cigarettes in a cafe or set off with their first great love at sea. For such walks, they just needed a warm, soft pullover, which warmed on a cold night - before sunrise. Soon after, the era of jeans and the following questions for the old generation came.
